TIPS TO HELP YOU PREPARE FOR YOUR MOVE

Tip 1

When looking for a trustworthy moving company,

make sure you start by verifying if they are fully licensed and authorized to operate. You can do this by checking the status of the company at www.bhgs.dca.ca.gov.

Tip 2

Moving companies can only provide you with a written estimate AFTER they have conducted a visual inspection

of the items you need moved. Never take verbal estimates over the internet or through the phone. You can book an on-site or Face-Time consultation at the time and day that works best for you. Just click the box below and you can expect a response within one hour.

Tip 3

Consider purchasing additional insurance protection

and set the value of your belongings for an amount that makes you comfortable. Virtuous Moving can offer you 3 types of insurance protection:

  1. BASIC VALUE COVERAGE (FREE)

We assume liability for no more than 60 cents per pound, per article. Loss or damage claims are settled based on the weight of the article multiplied by 60 cents per pound. For example, if a 30-pound television valued at $1,000 were lost or destroyed, we would be liable for no more than $18.00 (30 pounds x 60 cents per pound).

  2. ACTUAL VALUE COVERAGE ($150)

If any article is lost, destroyed or damaged while in our custody, we will, at our discretion, offer to do one (1) of the following for each item: repair the item, replace with a similar item, or make cash settlement for the cost of the repair or the current market replacement value.

  3. FULL VALUE COVERAGE ($300) FOR $20,000

We will be liable for the full replacement value of lost or damaged goods in your entire shipment.

Tip 4

Before anything is moved, make sure the mover provides you with the following:

  • A copy of the moving services agreement.

  • The “Important Information For Persons Moving Household Goods (within California)” booklet, which provides rules and regulations that the moving company must follow and information about your rights.

  • The “Important Notice About Your Move” document, which contains the “not to exceed” amount for all household moves. This is the maximum amount you can be charged unless you request additional services.

  • If you request additional or different services at the time of the move, you may be asked to complete a Change Order Agreement which may require you to pay additional fees for those newly requested services. If you agree to the additional charges on that Change Order, those charges may be added to the “not to exceed” amount set forth above. A Change Order cannot be used simply because a mover underestimated costs.

Tip 5

If possible, arrange for your small children and pets to be taken care of at a different location,

away from the movers at the very least. Wether you ask help from a babysitter or a family member, it’s best for your small children to be away from all the heavy and large items moving in and out of your home. Also, our movers will need to be able to keep all doors wide open while we load and unload our trucks. We are sure you would not want your beloved pets running out of the house.

Tip 6

Make packing one of your top priorities.

You do not want to be packing while your move is already happening! This will usually result in making the process longer for your movers to finish the job. Not to mention, it’s a lot more dangerous for everyone when you are getting in the movers’ way as visibility becomes lower when carrying large and heavy furniture or items.

Key tips when packing your own items:

  1. Create your own inventory list

  2. Label every box (ie. Living Room, Master Closet, Kitchen, Bathroom, etc…)

  3. Separate your items by category (ie. Electronics, Toiletries, Fragile glass and plates, documents, etc…)

  4. Take photos or videos so you know your belongings are in the same condition as how you last saw them

  5. Pack larger items at the bottom of each box, smaller items on top

  6. Use large boxes for light items and small boxes for heavy items

  7. Make sure the boxes you packed are sealed at the bottom securely, strong enough to hold the items you packed inside it

VIRTUOUS MOVING SERVICES WILL NOT ASSUME LIABILITY FOR BOXES WE DID NOT PACK IF LOST OR DAMAGED DURING TRANSITION (without evidence of external damage).

Packing is very crucial when it comes to getting it done first. You do not want your movers to be waiting on you to pack your boxes. This can result in rushed packing (causing fragile items to break if not packed correctly), and not only that, it will only cost you more money per hour as the movers wait for you to finish. Just leave it up to us, we are equipped with every packing materials needed to keep your fragile items safe. All YOU have to do is sit back and relax.

Tip 7

Sell, donate, or junk any items, furniture, and appliances you do not want to bring to your new home or office.

Getting rid of your unwanted items can save you time and money during move day. Don’t worry about contacting another company as our services go beyond just moving your things. We can haul out your junk before loading up your wanted belongings to your new location. Click the box below to receive a junk removal quote in less than an hour.

Tip 8

Let the movers know where to park our large truck.

We recommend that you acquire a parking permit or block off a space for your movers in front of your home or office. You will be responsible for any parking tickets, meter fees, and/or towing fees if you do not prepare your movers with legal parking arrangements.
